Walk to the Park in Mayberry

We walked to the park today. It's a good long walk. We sold our old car and are down to 1 vehicle right now. Anytime we drive somewhere it means getting up at 5am to take Leon to work...I am NOT a morning person.

So the park is only a mile and a half up the road from us. I'm not getting the car just so we can go a mile and a half up the road. So we walked. The weather was perfect.

The kids don't like walking...but they love a picnic. We had fun. Until it was time to walk home...

"HEY BOYS, DON'T BREAK THE SPEED LIMIT OR ANYTHING!" sheesh

My 10 Year Old

He's 10. Double Digits. We make a big deal out of 10th birthdays. We gave him his very first pocket knife. He's has more privileges than his little brothers now, like staying up till 9:00 on a school night.

He loves sci-fi, and Star Wars reigns supreme. He's a compartmentalist and concrete thinker. He loves being outdoors and working with tools.

He is extremely responsible for his age. Never forgets his chores and always gets his schoolwork done on time.

He joined Cub Scouts this year as a Weebelos. He is so loving it! He works very hard on his achievements and is half way to his Arrow of Light award. I'm so proud of him.

Ishmael has been going by his first name (Calvin) this year. It started with Cub Scout registration. The leaders all called him by his first name and he didn't correct them. It didn't take long before he started referring to himself as Calvin.

I still call him Ishmael. It's harder for mom to make the switch. I can talk about him as Calvin, but I can't talk to him as Calvin.

Jeremiah on the Computer

Jeremiah LOVES playing on the computer. When I see the kids sitting at the computer with headphones it reminds me of when me and my brother used to play. Dad had all kinds of cool games for us to play. We were both computer savvy quite early, especially for our generation. Most people didn't even have a computer in their homes.

Are you kidding me???

10 seconds after I posted my Spring Fever post...the kids hollered "MOM! It's snowing!!!" *sigh* Spring is not ready to play.

Spring Fever

I'm ready for green grass and blossoming trees! Hurry Spring! Come and play!

Hey Z!

If you happen to read this, know that I love you, and I'm praying for you. We all miss you so much!

What Leon Loves About His Wife

Leon was so sweet, he wrote down the things he loves about me. (He doesn't mind if I post)

The way she makes me feel.

Her smile.

Her green eyes.

Our friendship.

The way she supports me.

That she is the mother of our children.

The way she loves me.

The way she loves our family.

14 Things I Love About My Husband

1. He loves our Lord and Savior and is devoted to Him.

2. He is passionate about his beliefs.

3. He is, hands down, THE BEST father in the world.

4. He is always quick to apologize when he is wrong or makes mistakes.

5. He is strong in body.

6. He is strong in spirit.

7. He is a man of prayer.

8. He knows when and where to seek wise council.

9. He is a hard worker.

10. He is tender and loving.

11. He is thoughtful and will pick up little gifts for the people in his life. Not just me, the kids, friends, whoever he thinks about when he's out and about.

12. He has a wonderful sense of humor.

13. He backs me up, even if it means telling me that I was wrong later.

14. He is steady, faithful, and true to his word.

We aren't really stuffed animal people, but every few years Leon will bring me a cute cuddly stuffed animal. I love it when he does!

Isley Farm

The Tiger Leader invited the den to her farm for an afternoon of fun activities.

Here they are making hobos.
Photobucket

Ingredients for the hobo: choice of meat (chicken, pork chop, hamburger patty), potatoes, sweet potatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, cabbage, garlic powder, season salt, salt and pepper, and a little butter.
Photobucket

Wrap it up tight. Write your name on it. Notice Ishmael's embelishment.

And cook over the hot ashes for 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

While lunch was cooking we all went fishing.

Good thing we weren't relying on their catch for lunch, we'd have starved.

This is a very delicious campfire meal:

Dessert was a very yummy peach cobbler cooked in a dutch oven on the fire.

After lunch we went on a hike through the woods:

There was so much to see.

This was a lovely find:

Here you can see the tracks from a raccoon and what he had for lunch:

Thanks Jeremiah, I was wanting to wash shoes tonight.

Den Meeting

I had my night cut out for me since both the Tigers and the Bears had big projects planned tonight.

Thank goodness I have Kelsea to help me out! She is a very good Den Mother.

The coolest part of Cub Scouts is watching the boys work so hard and accomplish big tasks.

Chili Cook-Off

We got together to watch a very important football game, compete in a chili contest, and have lots of fun.

The younger guys got into the game in the last quarter.

I have to say, I don't normally sit and watch football. This game was so close! Even I had a good time actually watching it.
