Jeremiah is a Snaggle Tooth

Snaggle Tooth

You can see that the tooth we were worried about is coming in very nicely. His teeth are looking very healthy.

We'll take the rest of him one day at a time. ;-D

Snaggle Tooth

Joshua is 8!!

I can't believe that my little guy is turning 8 today!

Birthday Boy

Joshua is such a sweet guy. Being very sensitive himself, he's very thoughtful about other people's feelings. He's also extremely independent (or he tries to be anyway). He can't stand being challenged on his size or age. So don't tell him he's little.

When he's mad his jaw tightens and his lips purse together making him look all that more stubborn, but he's determined and doesn't back down from something simply because it's "too hard."

He's reading now. He just really started taking off in the last few months. He devours everything in sight and LOVES to read to his little brother and me. He doesn't even hesitate with the difficult words, he simply plows right on through, but doesn't seem to mind being corrected. However, he also makes sure to get the hard words right the next time. Math seems to come easy to him as he doesn't have to work so hard at it. He is a concrete thinker and has very good reasoning skills.

Joshua is the first one to grab something heavy from my hands or to roll up his sleeves to help me with projects and cleaning around the house. He's so thoughtful of me, his mother. He makes sure my cup is full, both literally and metaphorically.

His favorite things:
Swimming
Hank the Cowdog
Pizza
Ice Cream
Peaches
Ride Bikes
Play Basketball
GI Joe

The Baker Boys vs The Yellow Jackets

The boys found a yellow jacket nest at the neighbors house. They decided to investigate it. Well, that required poking sticks down the hole and seeing what would happen. Having never seen yellow jackets before and not being familiar with how aggressive they are...well this happened:

Yellow Jacket

Yellow Jacket

Ishmael was stung on the eyelid. Joshua came through the doors first to tell us what happened to his brother. Then he went back outside to play....

Yellow Jacket

only to find out the yellow jackets followed them home.

Yellow Jackets

Both of the boys had some swelling. With Ishmael's sting being so close to the eye we couldn't do much more than ice it and give him benedryl. Joshua fared much better and we applied a meat tenderizer paste to his sting. Both boys were fine withing 48 hours.

AND THEY WILL NEVER EVER POKE STICKS DOWN A YELLOW JACKET HOLE AGAIN. EVER. AMEN.

Birthday Card

Every birthday my mom sends the kids a card with cash, "church gum", and sometimes another little goodie. These cards are so special to the kids. They look forward to them every year. They look forward to this as much as they look forward to Christmas morning.

Kelsea

Kelsea

She's such an artistic person. She's always got something going on. This is a rare moment where she actually let me catch her on camera.

Fireworks with Neighbors

Our neighbors came over and invited us to share an evening of fireworks and icecream. Who's going to pass that up?!

Neighbors

They even had sparklers for the kids!

It was such a nice evening together.

Raising a Bunny

I've been doing alot of research on the web about caring for a bunny. I knew going into this that bunnies needed alot more care than a dog or a cat. Really I was wanting another baby so while a bunny is alot of work...a baby would be more.

I've improved her cage quite a bit since we first brought her home. I installed a shelf and bought her a "tunnel" made of plumbing pipes.

She gets a couple of hours a day to play in the hallway. I sit in there with her and she jumps into my lap, she likes to have her back rubbed. She has even bestowed bunny kisses a few times.

Princess Pepper

Princess Pepper

I'm finding that taking pictures of a bunny is very hard. She doesn't like the camera sounds and she moves way too fast for even the fastest shutter speed.

4th of July

We had a great time. There was a really bad strom brewing but it was cool to see the lightening gonig on behind the fireworks. If hot, wet, and sweaty kids are the testamoney of a good time, then this celebration takes the cake!

Look Who's Here

It's adoption day at the Baker House.

Adoption Day

The kids spend some time guessing who we will bring home.

Adoption Day

Will it be a bunny? A guinea pig? Possibly a ferret?

Her name is Princess Pepper. We are 50% sure she is a girl. We won't know for sure for a few more weeks. If she is a he we will call him Dr. Pepper.

So far we are just getting to know our bunny. She's very curious and full of energy. She seems pretty social and will hop from one lap to the next to be petted.

Everyone is being extra quiet, and extra extra gentle as Little Pepper gets used to us.
