Red Envelope Day

www.redenvelopeday.com

"The envelopes represent the innocent blood shed through abortion, and the plea for the blood of Jesus over the sin of our nation. This campaign is a symbolic act to flood the mail with red. The more we send, the more powerful this symbol will be."

The kids an I took part in today's political protest.

We made our own envelopes out of construction paper. Since they are empty they didn't have to be perfect.

1. We cut off the corners of a standard sized piece of construction paper.

2. We folded it up to the bottom of the triangle at the top of the page and glued the sides.
Photobucket

3. We folded down the triangle flap and glued it closed.

We addressed them to the White House with our names and addresses on the return. On the back we wrote:

"This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world."

I was taking this picture and noticed the poster to the right. The irony of it kills me.

Updating My Blog

I am tired of the tiny pictures. I think I may have found a solution by playing with the layout. Let me know what you think.

March Pack Meeting

There were so many awards given out at this months pack meeting!

Joshua earned 1 gold and 2 silver arrow points for his uniform.

Photobucket

Ishmael earned his Scholar Activity Pin, Citzenship Beltloop, Math Beltloop, Language and Culture Beltloop, and his Chess Beltoop. He has been working hard. That and he has over achievers for parents. lol

Kelsea is making some friends now that some of the other scout sisters are starting to attend pack meetings.

God and Country

The boys earned their Cub Scout awards for the God and Country series last fall. The church that hosted the classes also had a ceremony during their church services as a way to bring the families to church together.

Joshua and Jeremiah took the God and Me class.

Ishmael took the God and Family class. There was one Girl Scout. Brave girl to take a class with all the boys.
Photobucket

This was a great opportunity for the boys and the church was so generous to offer their time and talents to the scouts. The boys enjoyed the classes. It was fun. I think next year though, we'll see about doing it with our own pastor. I think it will be more meaningful to the boys that way.

Recreational Exposure

Our new name for "fishing," since we don't actually catch any fish.

We did change bait (from worms to minnows) in an attempt to catch something.

Jeremiah does not like touching the minnows. They move faster than the worms did.

Photobucket

Joshua preferred the minnows over the worms. Next time we are just going to get both.

Photobucket

Good natured teasing.

Photobucket

But with the BSA caramel popcorn in Ishmael's hands...he better be careful.

Photobucket

Leon loves fishing. We are planning on going more often. Maybe even once a month.

Photobucket

This is what Jeremiah thinks of Recreational Exposure.

Photobucket

Maybe one day he'll catch something. I think he might need to learn to bait his hook first.

Fishing at the Lake

The kids and I have a new hobby.

We walked to the lake that is just over a mile from home.

Mama's Birthday

We went to visit Leon's mom in Charlotte to celebrate her birthday. Leon and his sister tried to surprise her but she was waiting up for us in the living room. It's really hard to get one past her.

Mr. Tyrone came over while we were on our way out the door. He's a good family friend.

Photobucket

Look closely...it's like playing Where's Waldo...only it'd be Where's Mr. Tyrone.

Happy Birthday Ishmael...I mean Calvin

He planned his own birthday from start to finish. He even had to keep his own budget. We priced parties all over town. There are alot of cool places for a kid to party around here. Ishmael wanted something different, something really special and grown up for his party. So he chose a fishing trip.

He first looked at a ton of invitations and none of them were quite right and the ones he did like were too expensive for his budget. So he came home and made his own.

Photobucket

He chose a camo theme for his colors and spent more of his budget on fishing equipment than party supplies. (haha)

When it came to the cake he was adamant that he did NOT want a store bought cake. So I made his favorite chocolate on chocolate with chocolate.

Ishmael's Birthday

He wanted to set up a scavenger hunt for his guests. We made a list of things people would find on the trail or by the lake. We made two separate lists Things You See/ Things you Bag. The boys got so excited about it and found almost everything on their lists.

Ishmael's Birthday

Look behind the dude.

Ishmael's Birthday

Up in the tree. It's a woodpecker nest.

Ishmael's Birthday

An intact freshwater clam. The boys fought really hard to get it to open. They finally gave up and set it free.

Ishmael's Birthday

I really don't know what Jeremiah found.

Ishmael's Birthday

While we hiked through the woods, Leon cooked.

Ishmael's Birthday

And these boys were hungry!! The funny thing is we worked hard to get table cloths on enough tables for all the kids (it was very windy). Apparently manly men don't need tablecloths.

Ishmael's Birthday

Ishmael's Birthday

Hmm...I'm thinking this might not be a good combination.

Photobucket

After eats and presents we all went fishing. The part of the day Ishmael had been waiting for!
Leon likes to fish too.

Ishmael's Birthday

Leon is also real handy to have on a fishing trip. I don't know nuthin' 'bout baitin' no hooks.

Ishmael's Birthday

Ishmael's Birthday

Joshua don't like to touch no worms either.

Ishmael's Birthday

This little girl...well she likes to touch the worms.

Photobucket

She showed us up BIG time.

Photobucket

Thanks Skyla!

Ishmael says it was the best birthday ever! Better than the bowling alley, or movie theater. Better even than Frankie's Fun Park. I think we have a country boy on our hands.
