Marriage Ammendment

In a few weeks I will be voting against the same-sex marriage amendment that will read:

"Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts."

This is where I steer left of my Libertarian friends. Since marriage is legally binding and ministers who perform ceremonies have to be licensed by the state, it should be governed by the state. How can we tell the government to "get out of the marriage business" when we hand the dissolution of it over to the courts to sort out? For legal purposes though, it should be called a "legal partnership" across the board. Religious ceremonies should be left up to the church you attend.

The state should not be in the business of making lifestyle or morality choices for it's citizens. This would rank us on level with Shari'a Law. Is there property damage? Does gay marriage infringe on the rights of others? Is there physical or emotional damage if we allow homosexual marriage to be recognized by the state? Of course not! Thus limits the power the state has over deciding who gets married to whom. We shouldn't add personal opinion or preference to either the State or Federal Constitution.

I'd rather fight against the freedom of "no fault" divorce. It's far more damaging to family dynamics and the security of our children, making marriage a temporary status until you get bored, unhappy, or find someone new.

Gay marriage is already illegal in the state of North Carolina. Adding this amendment to our state constitution is simply unneccessary and goes against the purpose of having a Constitution which is to protect the citizens from an overreaching government.

Vote Ron Paul!

I've been campaigning for Ron Paul because I believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. I want a president who'll stand by it and protect our rights.
"Repeal ObamaCare and end its unconstitutional mandate that all Americans must carry only government-approved health insurance or answer to the IRS" RON PAUL!
"As an Air Force veteran, Ron Paul believes national defense is the single most important responsibility the Constitution entrusts to the federal government." RON PAUL!
It's time for our country to explore affordable, environmentally sound, and reliable energy through a free market. End the EPA. Polluters should answer to landowners and real people for the damages they inflict. RON PAUL!
It's time to END THE FED! RON PAUL!
Our country needs a FLAT TAX. No more corporate bailouts or elitist loopholes. RON PAUL!
Read about him for yourself, then decide: RON PAUL!

Lemonade Freedom Day

How American can you get than a child's Lemonade stand? It's right up there with apple pie and watermelon.

August 20th was dubbed Lemonade Freedom Day. People across the country took part in the nationwide protest. Sadly many were arrested or tagged with enormous fines for operating a food service business without a permit, license, and proper insurance.

Participating in free and voluntary trade with willing participants is not a crime.

I love my small "Mayberry Town". The cops honked and waved. No one approached them or made them "cease and desist." I only wish more people also patronized their small business.

The kids had some good clean fun and learned the timeless lessons in marketing, economy, supply and demand, and that dirty word: entrepreneurship.

Red Envelope Day

www.redenvelopeday.com

"The envelopes represent the innocent blood shed through abortion, and the plea for the blood of Jesus over the sin of our nation. This campaign is a symbolic act to flood the mail with red. The more we send, the more powerful this symbol will be."

The kids an I took part in today's political protest.

We made our own envelopes out of construction paper. Since they are empty they didn't have to be perfect.

1. We cut off the corners of a standard sized piece of construction paper.

2. We folded it up to the bottom of the triangle at the top of the page and glued the sides.

3. We folded down the triangle flap and glued it closed.

We addressed them to the White House with our names and addresses on the return. On the back we wrote:

"This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion.
It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to be a part of our world."

I was taking this picture and noticed the poster to the right. The irony of it kills me.

Don't Forget to Vote

We live approximately 2 blocks from City Hall, where early voting took place. So we were able to save ourselves the hassle of parking. I love living in "Mayberry"

I finished voting before Leon did, so I took the kids outside.

They were so thrilled...

In all fairness, it was rather warm today.

Finally, 2 hours from start to finish, we got our special sticker prize.

The Republican Headquarters

A dear friend and I took the boys to the Republican Headquarters in Durham County. I wanted to get a sign and a bumper sticker in support of McCain/Palin. I also needed more information on some issues I was questioning.

The boys left with SO many questions. It was such a great opportunity to share the election and my concerns about it with them.

They also really enjoyed all their booty.

I didn't realize they were listening to what the grownups were saying. I was shocked by the questions they asked on the way home.

"Go See It"

Our Webelos den went on a field trip.

We were supposed to meet the mayor of Creedmoor. Unfortunately the mayor was called away to a meeting. The Mayor Pro Tem filled his place.

He let the boys take turns sitting at the mayors desk so it was all good.

Ishmael happened to be sitting in the mayor's seat. So he got to lead the meeting. He was so excited about that. It was all he could talk about when he got home.
