June Garden Update

I've been working hard in the garden this year. Most of my plants are doing well. I lost all of my corn. I think we've just had too much rain for growing corn in buckets. Whatever the problem was, the corn all fell flat.

Ishmael is trying to save a baby tree.

The cherry tomatoes on the left aren't growing as well as the row of heirlooms on the right.

Happy Birthday Ishmael

He's 12! Of course he didn't want a birthday cake. This year he opted for Brownies A La' Mode.

He love music and his playlist is very random. He likes everything from blues and R&B to some Heavy Metal classics. He is not usually a fan of top 50 hits, but he makes and exception for Eminem.

When he grows up he wants to be a U.S. Marine or a football player.

Carolina Hurricans v/s Atlanta Thrashers

Ishmael won tickets to the Canes game by filling up his Boy Scout popcorn order form. He also earned a $30 gift card to Walmart, and a marshmallow crossbow shooter.

This was both of their first hockey game. The Canes won 4 to 3 in overtime.

Ode to Thanksgiving

Calvin's new song (sort of sung to the tune of Annie's Tomorrow)

I'm so excited about Tomorrow Tomorrow
I'll love you until always
I can't wait until Tomorrow Tomorrow
I plan to feed my face

Wanna Play Hangman?

That was the question Calvin posed to me this morning.

I'm not so sure...but the game looks rigged to me.

How He Celebrated

We celebrated his birthday a day early. Thursdays are busy here. I didn't want him to hang around until after 9:00 waiting to celebrate his birthday. That would kinda suck.

He had nachos for dinner. His current favorite.

Ishmael is a nonconformist...like his mother. This is the 2nd time he wanted an all out ice cream sunday for his dessert rather than the traditional cake. Take note of the backpack he's wearing. It's a hiker's pack so he can do lots of hiking/camping. That is if he doesn't wear it out from wearing it so much. lol
Photobucket

He has everything but the nuts. We are laying off until we get a nut allergy screening.

He and I went through pictures together and he made this collage all on his own.

Tonight, Daddy surprised him with a new pocket knife.

Happy Birthday Calvin

Sometimes you are a mystery to me.

You amaze me everyday. You are so smart. You have my heart in the palm of your hand.

Please stop growing so fast, K?

Life with Boys

"United with Him"

When he was 6 years old Ishmael made a profession of faith that Jesus Christ died for his salvation. He did this at home during prayer time. He's pretty quiet about his faith, but takes it very seriously.

Joshua went forward to pray during the alter call at Christian Assembly's VBS when he was 7 and professed a belief in Jesus. He was so excited he told me all about what it meant on the car ride home and again later with Leon.

Because the boys were so young we decided to wait and talk to them about baptism when they were older. We wanted it to be their own individual choice. One that they make all on their own with no prompting from us.

Pastor Mac preached on baptism recently and it got the boys talking about it. They asked questions at home and they both decided that it was what they wanted to do. So we invited Pastor Mac and Mr. Dale over to talk with the boys about it.

Both boys shared their statement of faith so clearly and so directly, it brought tears to my eyes.

Joshua said, "I know that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, that he died, was buried, and rose again."

Ishmael said, "People sometimes put other things as more important than God, but I
believe that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and paid the price for my sins."

Romans 6:3-5
"Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection,"

Joshua:
Baptism

Being buried with Christ.

Rising in newness of Life.

Interview With a 5th Grader

I enjoyed interviewing the kids. Some of their reactions to the "big questions" were funny. They had a blast with this and want to do it again soon.

Happy Birthday Ishmael...I mean Calvin

He planned his own birthday from start to finish. He even had to keep his own budget. We priced parties all over town. There are alot of cool places for a kid to party around here. Ishmael wanted something different, something really special and grown up for his party. So he chose a fishing trip.

He first looked at a ton of invitations and none of them were quite right and the ones he did like were too expensive for his budget. So he came home and made his own.

Photobucket

He chose a camo theme for his colors and spent more of his budget on fishing equipment than party supplies. (haha)

When it came to the cake he was adamant that he did NOT want a store bought cake. So I made his favorite chocolate on chocolate with chocolate.

Ishmael's Birthday

He wanted to set up a scavenger hunt for his guests. We made a list of things people would find on the trail or by the lake. We made two separate lists Things You See/ Things you Bag. The boys got so excited about it and found almost everything on their lists.

Ishmael's Birthday

Look behind the dude.

Ishmael's Birthday

Up in the tree. It's a woodpecker nest.

Ishmael's Birthday

An intact freshwater clam. The boys fought really hard to get it to open. They finally gave up and set it free.

Ishmael's Birthday

I really don't know what Jeremiah found.

Ishmael's Birthday

While we hiked through the woods, Leon cooked.

Ishmael's Birthday

And these boys were hungry!! The funny thing is we worked hard to get table cloths on enough tables for all the kids (it was very windy). Apparently manly men don't need tablecloths.

Hmm...I'm thinking this might not be a good combination.

After eats and presents we all went fishing. The part of the day Ishmael had been waiting for!
Leon likes to fish too.

Ishmael's Birthday

Leon is also real handy to have on a fishing trip. I don't know nuthin' 'bout baitin' no hooks.

Ishmael's Birthday

Joshua don't like to touch no worms either.

Ishmael's Birthday

This little girl...well she likes to touch the worms.

Photobucket

She showed us up BIG time.

Thanks Skyla!

Ishmael says it was the best birthday ever! Better than the bowling alley, or movie theater. Better even than Frankie's Fun Park. I think we have a country boy on our hands.
