Jeremiah has become more sensitive in the last few years. He makes "friends" in all sorts of strange places and has quite an imagination. He is very much like I was as a kid.
His most recent adventure involved a worm named Donny. Donny wanted to go swimming real bad. His friend, Chris, went swimming all the time. Donny didn't know he couldn't swim and neither did Jeremiah. So Jeremiah took him to the cat bowl to try out his fins. Poor Donny stopped wiggling and squirming and just got real still.
He must have died because there now stands a grave in his honor. It even has a headstone.
Poor Donny, may he rest in peace.

My Christmas Gift
The kids and I have been plotting on eachother. Each evening I disappeared to my room to work on hats while they conspired downstairs on my gift.
They made the most clever card I have ever received. It was made much like their folderbooks.
Each child worked on a section.
Ishmael drew this computer. It is a copy of my favorite message board. He says, "We know who you are going to show this to." And he was so right ;).
Kelsea's made me laugh out loud. I can not count the number of times the kids have spilled my coffee.
Jeremiah's was sweet because they usually complain about me always having the camera out.
Joshua wrote me a story:

Our Christmas Celebration
Leon was not able to come home on Christmas Day so we began our celebration on the eve of the 27th.
Leon and I put all the presents under the tree.
The kids hung their stockings and Leon and I stuffed them with goodies. Their stockings were overflowing so I put some yummies underneath them.
The next morning Leon and I cooked breakfast, put the turkey in the over (we like cooking together), and then woke the kids.
After breakfast we opened presents.
Kelsea painted this picture for Leon. It's her first painting! I think it brought tears to his eyes.
Kelsea got some instructional books for knitting and crocheting.
The boys got all of their soldier gear, this was a BIG hit!
There was even some camo face paint.
It was a very nice and relaxed afternoon. I am very blessed.

Christmas Day
Leon was not able to come home for Christmas Day. The kids and I played with their presents from last night. The Legos occupied most of the morning. I'm surprised at how easy these were for them.
Okay, Kelsea did most of the work on Jeremiah's.
Afterwards we had a feast of spaghetti with meatballs and PW's Olive Cheese Bread. We watched 7 Brides for 7 Brothers (FUNNY!) and decorated cookies. That night we had egg nog for dessert.
The kids LOVE egg nog.

Nana's Quilts
The kids LOVE when Nana makes them quilts. And these quilts are gorgeous!!!
Ishmael has been asking for a Blue Jean Quilt for a while now. He was so thrilled to finally get one!
Jeremiah has a quilt of Nana and Opa's dog, Sawyer. Sawyer and Jeremiah are best buds.
Kelsea's quilt is just beautiful! It is SO Kelsea.
Joshua's quilt is my favorite.
It's hard to see at first, but this is actually a picture of what you see if you are sitting on my parents swing out by the creek. The closest I could find to this swing is this:
Except Mom and Dad's is so much nicer with a wooden roof.
So if you look straight across this scene you can see the top of the other swing, above that you see their yard with all sorts of perfect little details. Then at the top of the picture you see the roof.
This is the favorite play spot of all the grandchildren. So many wonderful adventures have been had there!

Christmas Eve
We spent Christmas Eve with my family at my brother's house.
Ishmael asked for permission to treat everyone to ice cream on the way down with his own money. Who can say no to ice cream?
Surprise!! Andrew and Karen are expecting #2!!! Karen is 5 weeks along.
Kelsea, Mom, and Dad
Every year we have a Shaw/Baker family WAR! One year it was Nerf, last year it was Laser Tag, and this year it was Medieval Knights v/s the Jedi Knights. Oh it was ON! In the rain even!

Drive-Thru Christmas
Christian Assembly does a Drive-Thru Christmas every year. It's much much more than a "Live Nativity". The people are fantastic and everything came together wonderfully.
There are six scenes. Scenes 1-5 are all part of the story of Jesus' birth. If you were to drive up in your car a guide would hand you a cd (or cassette tape) to play in your car. The cd would tell you to proceed to the first scene, and narrate what is going on with the actors/actresses in each scene starting with Mary's visit from Gabriel. The sets are gorgeous. I wish I had pictures of each one! At the end of each narration the cd will tell you it's time to move on to the next scene.
The event runs for 3-4 nights from 6:30-9:00. The actors each alternate between 30 min shifts and 30 minute breaks every night.
We were part of scene 5 and scene 6. I helped with dressing the actors and it was the perfect place for me. I had so much fun!
Ishmael played a shepherd boy on one of the nights. It was his favorite part of the event. He's just too cute for words!
As you drive up to scene 5 the cd explains that Jesus was born in a manger. Already in the scene is Mary, Joseph, an angel, and baby Jesus. 3 elaborately dressed wisemen appear from around the corner finding that the star shines above the stable and they enter inside. At about the same time you see 2 shepherds approach to see the child the angels spoke of. The wise men bow down and present their gifts. All admire the Newborn King.
Ishmael was very relieved that his friend Matthew was in the scene with him.
Scene 6 is about Jesus being King of the Universe. As you approach this scene you see children listening as Jesus is teaching. One child suddenly notices his nail scarred hands and all the children approach him. The narrative explains that Jesus died for our sins that we may have eternal life. Jesus calls all the children to him and embraces them with love and affection.
It is a very beautiful scene.
Joshua and our friend Elise.
Our friend Elise again. She was such an adorable little shepherd!
So much care went into each scene. The props and sets were all gorgeous! Kelsea played an angel in scene 4 but it was down at the lower end of the property and I was not able to take pictures. No walking back and forth between the scenes was allowed. It made for a more enjoyable experience for the passengers in their cars. You would feel like you have caught a glimpse of the story as it unfolds in history. Truly it is such an amazing event!

African Children's Choir
A dear friend, Mrs. Banks, invited us to be her guests at the African Children's Choir today. Oh we had such a lovely time.
This was a spectacular program. If you ever have the opportunity to watch these children perform you should definitely go! These children are from different countries in Africa and they travel around the world performing and bringing better lives to themselves and to other children like them in their homeland.
Here is more information on this ministry.
